Four commonly used laser cutting processing methods

Fusion cutting:When the laser cutting machine performs melting cutting, the workpiece is locally heated and the molten material is sprayed out through the air flow. Since the material transfer only occurs in liquid state, the process is called laser melting cutting. In laser melting cutting, the material is first heated to a specific temperature and a nozzle coaxial with the beam is sprayed with non-oxidizing gas, and the liquid metal is discharged by gas pressure to form a incision. Compared with vaporization cutting, laser melting cutting requires only one-tenth of the energy and does not require complete vaporization of the metal. It is mainly used for the cutting of some non-oxidizing materials or active metals, such as stainless steel, titanium, aluminum and its alloys.

Vaporization cutting:Laser cutting machine uses high energy and high density laser beam to heat the workpiece, so that the temperature rises rapidly, and the material is vaporized into steam in a very short time. The steam is ejected to create a notch on the surface of the material, thus achieving the cutting effect. However, since most materials have a high calorific value of vaporization, the surface temperature of the material quickly reaches the temperature above the boiling point, and fast enough to avoid the melting phenomenon caused by conduction. As a result, some of the material is blown away by the gas stream and disappears as ejecta at the bottom of the slit. Therefore, the processing method is only suitable for use when melting substances must be avoided. Laser vaporization cutting is usually applied to extremely thin metal and non-metallic materials.

Controlled fracture cutting:The process of high-speed, controlled cutting through the laser beam heating of the laser cutting machine is called controlled fracture cutting, which is generally suitable for brittle materials. The cutting method is to use a laser beam to heat the local area of the brittle material, resulting in a large temperature gradient and mechanical deformation, resulting in cracks in the material, and then apply a certain pressure, the brittle material will be broken along the small slot.

Oxidation melting cutting (laser flame cutting):Molten cutting generally uses inert gas, but if oxygen is used, the material will be ignited under the irradiation of the laser beam, and a fierce chemical reaction with oxygen occurs, producing a large amount of oxidation heat, the energy required is half of the melting cutting, the cutting speed is much greater than the laser vaporization cutting and melting cutting, this method is called oxidation melting cutting. Mainly used for carbon steel, titanium steel and heat-treated steel and other easily oxidized metal materials.
